There’s nothing like a happy heart, the pleasure a host gets when guests are excited with the cuisine, breaking of bread, lasting impressions and uplifted spirits. The birth of Butterfly Brittles was a culmination of heart-warming experiences, celebrations, gatherings; and my love for members of my village, travels, delicious foods, and wines.
In 2008, I took a big step to introduce my gift of classic peanut brittle to the world -- and delight the taste buds of all peanut brittle fans. Our introductory varietals included: Original Peanut, No Nut Coconut, Spicy Pecan, and Zesty Pistachio brittles, all produced to complement wines, craft beers, spirits, charcuterie and gourmet cheese boards; serve as expressions of gratitude, friendship, love, or just because gift giving .
I was a full-time corporate employee, so I had to be smart with strategies and executions to successfully stand up my entrepreneurial endeavor. To maximize my efforts, I took advantage of industry partnerships and membership benefits to establish brand presence in the specialty food market. We participated as a newbie exhibitor in the 2009 NYC Fancy Food Show landing two front-page images in USA Today; was interviewed live by Joel Riddell of KGO 810 radio at the San Francisco Chronicle; and introduced our simply indulgent gourmet brittle’s nutty, buttery, light, and crunchy deliciousness to wine enthusiasts at numerous wine tastings.
We launched the Butterfly Brittles website, expanded our wine tasting participation state-wide, supported non-profit fundraising events hosted by Junior League Chapters, and introduced our “Wow” Cacao and No Nut “Wow” Cacao, chocolate varietals at Ghirardelli’s Annual Festival and TasteTV’s International Chocolate Salons. We also partnered with LA’s Wine House, specialty shops, an online site to market our varietals, and produced pillow treats for a boutique hotel in Paso Robles.
2013’s terrain brought increased family obligations and financial decisions to this single mother of teenage daughters. My daughter’s needs, college aspirations, and goals took center stage; I was promoted to a specialist role in my corporate job and had to admit that it would not be possible for me to maintain Butterfly Brittles’ pace, and travel demands, while successfully delivering aggressive corporate sales goals – a very sad and honest decision that had to be made to retire my entrepreneurial endeavor.
A silver lining. Two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, I search my soul and pivoted from business development consulting to reinvesting in Butterfly Brittles -- the rebirth of one of my most rewarding business endeavors. My decision was based on the joys and experiences this business brings to customer, the pleasures necessary to make us whole again -- “feel good” gift giving, unforgettable epicurean pleasures, and delicious family and friend experiences for all – Carpe Diem!
We source the finest and freshest ingredients from local suppliers to produce small batches of the highest quality, gluten and preservative-free artisan brittle varietals accented with flavorful flair and southern charm.
Things certainly are not as simple as they used to be, however, taking the time to create special moments is imperative to our well-being and lifting of spirits. We aim to satisfy gourmet confectionery palates, nostalgic appetites, and foodie cravings with our gifted artisan brittles. Our goal is to make each Butterfly Brittles experience a deliciously memorable one, bring joy, and help our customers seize their days.
